Introducing ASTM A1085: A New Specification For Hollow Structural Sections

by Kim Olsen

In April of 2013, a new ASTM specification - A1085 - was announced impacting the production of hollow structural sections (HSS). This new specification provides for enhanced performance and makes designing with HSS easier and more efficient for structural engineers. This presentation will give an overview of the new specification as well as practical advice on designing in anticipation of 1085 adoption. Following this presentation, attendees will:

  • Gain awareness of ASTM A1085 and how it differs from ASTM A500
  • Understand the design opportunities the specification provides
  • Know where to find additional resources on ASTM A1085 as well as production availability information.
