For dedicated professional engineers, earning a PE license is just the beginning. Many state licensing boards require that PEs maintain and improve their skills through continuing education courses and other opportunities for professional development. More than thirty U.S. states now require continuing education for engineers to maintain licensure. Arizona currently does not have continuing education requirements for structural engineers. Should we remain that way?
Recently the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration distributed a survey to gather information on this subject. The Board is currently compiling this information to assist the State Board in determining the direction that Arizona should take.
Your Southern Arizona Branch of Structural Engineers Association has invited Mr. Ron Dalrymple, Executive Director of the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, to present to our membership on the status of Arizona’s position on continuing education requirements for licensure.
In addition to the topic of continuing registration, we asked Mr. Dalrymple to provide his insight on other topics relevant to our membership such as: sealing other people’s work, use of electronic seals, when are seals required, and common violations brought before the Board. Please plan to attend for what should prove to be an opportunity for good discussion on these subjects.
