Central Chapter Dinner Meeting: 

Selecting an Economical Cast-in-Place Reinforced Concrete Floor System 

This presentation will cover general guidelines to achieve economical reinforced concrete structures. Provided are recommendations on how to achieve economical formwork, reinforcement and concrete. Also given are key characteristics and common uses for different one-way and two-way reinforced concrete floor systems. Emphasis is placed on how to select an economical reinforced concrete floor system for various loading and span conditions

Amy Trygestad, P.E., F.ACI


Ms. Trygestad is the Director of Code & Standards for the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute. She is a licensed Professional Engineer with over twenty years of experience in the structural design and construction industry. Her experience has touched many facets of the engineering and construction industry, including engineering consulting, program management, ready-mixed concrete production, and technical advancement of concrete design and construction. Her previous career positions include the Central US Regional Engineering Manager for the Building and Special Structure’s group at the Portland Cement Association and, most recently, the president and principal engineer of a small structural consulting firm that was the local structural engineering partner on the Minnesota Vikings - US Bank Stadium project in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ms. Trygestad actively serves on American Concrete Institute committees for Prestressed Concrete, Reinforced Slabs, Concrete Construction Specifications and Responsibility of Concrete Construction and was elected as a Fellow of ACI in 2014.  She also served as the concrete industry representative on the Editorial Board for STRUCTURE magazine and was elected the Minnesota Concrete Council President in 2007, serving on the MCC Board of Directors for over 10 years.
