A Brief Overview of Some of the Structural Engineering Projects Which Are Designed by the Local Firms


In this presentation, structural engineers from three of the major structural engineering firms in Tucson will share samples of their projects:

Biographic sketch of Presenters:


Ron Schneider, SE has 29 years of experience as a structural engineer and is currently the partner and Principal for Schneider Structural Engineers which he founded in 1999.  He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering degree from California Polytechnic State University and is a licensed Structural Engineer in the states of Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.  Ron is Past President of SEAoA and a member of ASCE’s Forensics Engineering Committee.

Prior to stablishing Schneider Structural Engineers, Ron was a principal with PK Associates in charge of the Tucson office.  After graduation, he joined Anderson DeBartolo Pan Architects and Engineers which was acquired by Fluor Corporation.  While working at his many engagements he designed numerous hospitals in California, Mid-Rise hotels in California, Clean rooms throughout the US and in Asia, earthquake rehabilitation in New Zealand and Alaska and many healthcare facilities, retail stores, schools, homes, manufacturing facilities, recreation facilities and U of A buildings right here in Tucson and throughout the country.

Ron is well traveled throughout the world, is an avid hiker and river rafter, is a licensed pilot and fly’s a high performance experimental airplane he built but did not design.


Allan Ortega-Gutierrez, PE is a structural engineer with M3 Engineering and Technology in Tucson AZ. He has worked on local projects, such as the Recreation Center Expansion at the University of Arizona and the LEO project at Biosphere 2, as well as international projects such as the Giant Magellan Telescope, where he has acquired knowledge about different building codes and local material sourcing limitations. He has acquired knowledge on the use of different structural analysis and design software, for both static and dynamic loading. After obtaining his Master’s Degree at the University of Arizona he has obtained professional licensure in Arizona and California.  Allan is Past President of SEAoA, Tucson Chapter.


Andy DiLeo, S.E.  is a project engineer at the Tucson office of Martin White & Griffis Structural Engineers. He graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from UofA in 2004. Andy has been working at MWG for the past 11 years where he gets to design with concrete, steel, masonry and wood if he’s forced to.  Andy is Past President of SEAoA, Tucson Chapter.


Jessica Castilleja, E.I.T. is a structural designer at the Tucson office of Martin, White & Griffis Structural Engineers. She graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2013. She began her career in Houston, Texas designing off shore structures in the oil and gas industry. She has been at MWG for almost two years and designs with concrete, steel, masonry, and wood, and performs special inspections for buildings during construction. Jessica is currently serving as the treasurer for SEAoA, Tucson Chapter.
